These are the short answers to the security questions we expect most often. Everything here follows the same rule: keep the seed offline, keep the process deliberate, and avoid single points of failure.
Does ImpactPlate store my seed phrase offline?
Yes. ImpactPlate is a physical 316L stainless steel backup plate for your seed phrase. It does not depend on an online account, app, or cloud service.
Do I need to punch the full word?
No. For BIP-39 seed words, only the first 4 letters are required. No two words in the BIP-39 list share the same first 4 letters, so those 4 characters are enough to identify the full word.
Should I put my passphrase on the plate?
No. Our recommendation is to keep the main seed phrase on the plate and store the passphrase somewhere else. The backup should stay incomplete without that separate secret.
How should I generate the seed phrase?
Generate it on a hardware wallet, not online. The point of the plate is to keep the backup in the physical realm, so the seed should start from an offline setup as well.
How do I know if someone accessed the backup?
Use the included envelope and anti-tamper seals after you finish punching and verifying the plate. If a seal is broken or shows a VOID pattern, treat the backup as potentially inspected or copied.
